The Spring Carp-a-thon is a Carp fishing competition hosted by Hay Plains Landcare for the duration of the NSW Spring School Period: Saturday 26th September 2026 to Sunday 11th October 2026.
- Participants must register to enter the competition and to be eligible for prizes.
- Registration is FREE and open until the last day of the competition.
- There are 2 levels of registration: Junior (1 to 11 years) and Open (12 years and older).
- All participants must comply with current NSW Fisheries and Waterways guidelines.
- Participants aged 18 years and over must hold a recreational fishing licence
- Fishing licences can be purchased here: https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/services/recreational-fishing-licence
- Participants aged 18 years and over must hold a recreational fishing licence
- There is no set location for fishing. You are welcome to fish anywhere you like. Please note that permission must be granted to access private property from the property owner.
- To be eligible for prizes, Carp must be entered as follows:
- Participants are to take a clear photo of each carp caught on a measuring device.
- Send photos at any time during the competition period to 0428 549 647.
- Include the participantβs name and fish length.
- By submitting your photo you authorise its use by Hay Plains Landcare in printed materials, electronic materials, websites & social media. Please advise if you would prefer us not to use your image.
- European Carp (Cyprinus carpio) is the only fish species that will be accepted in the competition.
- As Carp are an invasive species, all Carp caught must NOT be released back into the waterway but instead dispatched humanely (i.e. by a sharp blow to the head, just above the eyes).

By participating in the 2026 Spring Carp-a-thon you agree to the following statement:
I agree to participate in the Spring Carp-a-thon at my own risk. I know that my agreement operates to exclude any liability in negligence for harm that I may suffer. I am aware that this recreational activity may cause physical harm to me or to someone under my control or accompanying me, and I confirm that I have no condition, medical or physical, that could prevent me from, or be aggravated by, participating in this activity.
Examples of the risks include but are not limited to: tripping, slipping and falling; collision with someone or something; something giving way unexpectedly; back injury; strains; spillage and burns; trip hazards; car accident; bites and stings; sharp tools and equipment; sun and heat stress; poisoned by chemicals; injury from falling branches; and strained back.
